Have a Grande!
Just in case you are going to Seattle this weekend (cough) and wanted to bring home a "Thinking Of You" gift for your favorite coffee aficionado, keep the historic Pike Place Market in mind and get your capitalism-loving-touristy-self to the first Starbuck's.
While you're there, ponder the fact that the price of you daily double latte may go up for the first time in almost four years as Starbucks adds more stores and plans for the 2005 fiscal year.
Drive-thru stores, an expanded line of coffee-fee drinks, low carb and low fat selections, HearMusic, and that hot guy in the M Street store all contributed to company growth. And, the company's quarterly profit rose 43.5 percent to $98.1 million, or 24 cents a share, beating analysts' estimates by 2 cents. Sales were $1.3 billion.
Sigh. Forget the warm smiles and salutations from your morning regulars, the stock is what I miss the most after hanging up my green apron.

Hide It Under Your Mattress.
The opportunity costs are ridiculously high, but if you're that worried about a jump in prices, OR hate your snotty barista (Sir, it's a lah-tay), OR hate corporate America...
But, if you really want to you can buy your  coffee now and hoard it carefully:
-Unground beans will keep much longer than ground coffee.
-Remember that the worst things for coffee are oxygen, moisture and light, in that order.
-To ensure freshness store your coffee beans in a cool place.
-Keep it packed in a sealed tin, or vacuumed packed foil bad with a valve to let excess gas  (no valve= mess of exploded coffee in your freezer or pantry).
-Always, grind the beans just before brewing.
-And, if you're going to shell out $15/pound only freeze and thaw coffee once.

And if you're truly a fanatic: Fly beans to the states while they're still green and roast them your self. You can do it with a popcorn popper.
I did this once. It's an adventure but I don't recommend it. Not only did I break my popcorn popper but I also burned my hand and was cleaning charred coffee beans out of kitchen tiles for weeks.
